Located in Macon, Ga., Georgia Academy for the Blind provides educational services to individuals with visual impairments and multiple disabilities. Founded in 1852, the academy provides various programs, including academic, residential living, vocational education, health services and recreational activities. Its instructional programs provide education through early childhood education, and middle and high school programs. The academy s vocational education program includes courses in technology and industrial arts, visual communication, business education, and trade and industry. It has a program for multidisabled students that include various services, such as speech, physical and occupational therapy, recreation, transition and adaptive physical education. The academy s chair caning shop offers an opportunity to the students for learning the crafts of chair caning, bottoming and rushing. Its media center has computer with Braille printers and provides a variety of resources, including Braille books, large prints, descriptive videos and audio books.
