Operating since the last 90 years, Alameda County Water District (ACWD) is the first water district to be founded in the State of California, under the Caminetti Bill (County Water District Act of 1913). Alameda County Water District provides supply of quality water to Fremont, Newark and Union City regions in California. Its sources of water supply includes State Water Project, San Francisco PUC (Hetch Hetchy) and Alameda Creek Watershed Runoff. ACWD has developed several plans, including groundwater management policy and disaster preparedness to manage water resources. Alameda County Water District s groundwater management policy is designed to protect groundwater from contamination. The company s disaster preparedness efforts includes measures to protect the water system from damage during an earthquake or breaks in water lines.
