Established in 1975, Alive Hospice is a nonprofit organization offering a variety of health care programs and services. It operates a full-service residential facility for elderly people. The facility provides in-home hospice services, inpatient and residential care at the 30-bed residential facility, full-time medical directors on staff, and grief center counseling and support. The center also provides a full continuum of care, ranging from symptom control and pain management for patients, to bereavement services and education for their families. Registered nurses with special expertise in the care of the terminally ill patient are on duty round-the-clock, as are care partners who assist with personal care. Social workers with knowledge of community resources and are especially sensitive to the issues of death, dying and bereavement are also on staff. Chaplains coordinate support for the patient and family with the patient's rabbi, priest or minister and provide additional spiritual support. Alive Hospice is located in Nashville, Tenn.
