American Physical Therapy Association, located in Alexandria, Va., is a national organization promoting physical therapy practice, research and education. The association has more than 66,000 members. It offers mentoring programs, such as professional and leadership development, and growth in physical therapy programs. Its educational section includes accreditation, and clinical residency and fellowship credentialing. The association offers education programs to physical therapist educators and assistant educators. It provides post-professional graduate degree programs to physical therapists, and also offers scholarship and financial aid to students. APTA publishes a monthly magazine covering management, legislative and cultural issues related to the practice. The association has an advocacy section covering affairs, such as congressional, federal regulatory, international, Medicare and state government affairs. Physical Therapy, its scientific journal, covers the scope of physical therapist practice.
