Established in 1882, American Public Transportation Association is a nonprofit international association of more than 1,600 member organizations, including public transportation systems and planning, design, construction and finance firms. Its members also include product and service providers; government agencies; trade publications; academic institutions; and state associations and departments of transportation. The association offers a variety of membership categories, including transit, business member, transit management companies, government agencies and affiliates. It has a nonpartisan policy research center that provides research materials, strategies and other forms of support on the benefits of public transportation. American Public Transportation Association is located in Washington, D.C.
