Operational since 1881, The American National Red Cross has been one of the leading emergency response organizations in the world. Located in Pittsburgh, Pa., it offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war and natural disasters. The organization is a part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, a global network of 186 national societies. In addition to domestic disaster relief, The American National Red Cross offers services in five other areas: community services providing support for military members/families, collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood/blood products, educational programs promoting health/safety and international relief/development programs.
