The Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin, Texas, founded in 1993, offers a master of acupuncture and oriental medicine program. The program can be completed in three years and one term and compares and contrasts the principles, diagnostic methods and procedures of biomedicine and Oriental medicine. It teaches students the root of health problems and ways to treat them. Class sizes are limited, ranging from eight to 28 students, providing individual attention to students. The Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin offers students the option to begin clinical observation in the first term of training. After completing the required first year courses and passing the comprehensive examination, the student can begin the required treatment of 450 patients.
