Arareity was started by Donald Garrett and Carole Koblik in March 1974. With $5000 they walled in Arareity’s section of ‘The Building’ located at 10th and R in downtown Sacramento and stocked the store with loose beads, sterling silver and a few gold items. Slowly, living on Carole’s income from teaching, they built up a stock of gold items. For three years all profit was put back into the business. By 1980 Arareity was solely owned by Carole Koblik. A distinctly more feminine store was the result. Arareity no longer carried beads, but now featured Crystal and Art Glass. Carole began taking the Gemological Institute of Americas gemology classes to give Arareity the much needed credibility it needed by a new store. In 1985 Carole hired the services of the Michael Thomas Corporation to help Arareity professionalize the business and increase store profit. Arareity’s goal remains giving its customers the best quality product available for the price and to educate them about the jewelry they select and to ensure they select pieces that will give them optimal satisfaction for the life of the product.
