Founded in 1954, The Arc of the Piedmont is a nonprofit membership organization that works to improve the lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The agency offers advocacy and educational programs for families. It serves people in Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson counties, as well as Charlottesville in Virginia. The Arc of the Piedmont also provides consumer directed respite and personal assistance services. The agency offers residential opportunities in more than five homes. In addition, it provides adult day activity services that include individualized training in socialization and communication. The Arc of the Piedmont additionally offers community education programs.
