Founded in 1957, ARCA is a private nonprofit organization founded by parents desiring community-based services for their family members with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Governed by a volunteer board of directors, ARCA operates more than 100 residences in Albuquerque, N.M, and serves more than 400 individuals each year. Its services include independent and supported living, foster care, adoptions, respite care, supported employment and day activities. In addition, ARCA programs are overseen by an extensive group of trained health professionals, nutritionists, therapists, social workers and case managers. Transportation is provided through both public transportation and a fleet of vehicles that include specially equipped vans, which take people to and from work sites, medical appointments or recreational and social activities.
