Area Agency on Aging is a nonprofit organization providing services to more than 420,000 people age 60 and above residing in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties in Michigan. The organization advocates issues concerning older adults and persons with disabilities and prepares plans for meeting those needs through home and community services. It allocates and administers federal, state and private funds to support home and community-based services. Its home-based services include personal care, in-home respite for caregivers, homemaking, home chore assistance, home delivered meals and home injury control. Some of the community-based services supported by the agency include adult day services, long-term care ombudsman, vision and hearing impaired services, out-of-home respite for caregivers, resource advocacy, legal assistance, counseling, senior center staffing, employment and elder abuse prevention.
