Established in 1976, Abused Women's Aid in Crisis is committed to eliminating domestic violence by helping people with a range of support services. AWAIC is a nonprofit agency, governed by a volunteer board of directors. Its programs and services include a 24-hour crisis line, 24-hour shelter, crisis intervention, case management and advocacy, children s programs, a youth center, moving forward program, transitional housing, Alaska Native Women in Anchorage program and legal advocacy. AWAIC annually provides more than 13,000 safe-nights to women and children, over1,500 hours of group and individual advocacy to nonresidential clients, more than 15,000 hours of intense education and intervention to those who are abusive in their intimate relationships and over 140 community education presentations to more than 5,000 participants. AWAIC is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska.
