Balboa City School, located in San Diego, is a private school for students in grades one through12, who are diagnosed with learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and have poor academic and social skills. Balboa City School utilizes direct instruction and ability grouping in small classes to pay attention to individual differences. Its students practice researched-based, student survival strategies that enable them to become independent, organized and self-confident learners. The academic program is aligned with standards set by California Department of Education, complemented by classes in art, science, computers and physical education. The school has a state-of-the-art motor laboratory that is facilitated by on-site occupational therapists. Balboa City School's counseling program is an integral component of its program, and provides students with consistency and support on a daily basis. Balboa City School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and is a member of California Association of Private Special Education Schools.
