Founded in 1982, Beacon Day School is a private, nonprofit, independent day school educates the child through arts-enriched curriculum. Located in Oakland, Calif., its educational program serves students in prekindergarten through grade eight. Its kindergarten program prepares children for the transition from early childhood to the first grade. Its arts integrated curriculum includes visual arts, dance and vocal and instrumental music. Its middle school offers mini-courses, including arts, student publications, study skills, teen life, student government and community awareness. Its physical education and after-school team supports issues of adolescent health, development of large motor skills and team building. Its Beacon Day School Family Association sponsors regular curriculum chats, facilitates communication and provides support for the Beacon community.
