Benihanan is a chain of restaurants that specializes in Japanese cooking styles and food products. It has served more than 1 billion meals since it opened in 1964. Rocky Aoki opened his first Benihana restaurant in New York. The restaurant serves steaks, scallops, shrimp, chicken, calamari, salmon, beef and mushrooms. In addition, Benihanan serves a variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, such as juices, banana berry smoothies, vodka, rum, and peach and strawberry liqueurs. It operates more than 80 restaurants worldwide, including over 55 Benihana teppanyaki restaurants, nearly five Haru sushi restaurants and approximately 15 RA Sushi Bar restaurants. In addition, 19 franchised Benihana teppanyaki restaurants operate in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. It has a location in Dearborn, Mich., and the restaurant's chefs prepare the food at the guests' tables in teppanyaki style.
