Beyond Shelter is an agency that works to combat chronic poverty, welfare dependency and homelessness. Beyond Shelter's Institute for Research, Training and Technical Assistance is affiliated with the University of Southern California Social Work Research Center. In addition to research, the Institute conducts technical assistance activities nationwide. Another program offered by the shelter is Housing First for homeless families. Homeless families are referred to Beyond Shelter's 'Housing First' program by over 50 agencies from throughout Los Angeles County. Once enrolled, families are assigned a case manager, who works closely with the Housing Resources Department to move families directly into affordable rental housing in a residential neighborhood of their choice. It also offers rental assistance, employment services and several other housing programs. Beyond Shelter is located in Los Angeles.
