BlueChoice HealthPlan is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BlueCross and BlueShield of South Carolina. Both are independent licensees of the BlueCross BlueShield Association. BlueChoice HealthPlan has an A+ rating from A.M. Best, and an Excellent Accreditation status, the highest level awarded, from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. The insurance plan delivers comprehensive health care coverage for its members. It is contracted with many South Carolina s hospitals and doctors. Founded in 1984, BlueChoice HealthPlan was one of the first health maintenance organizations in South Carolina. It was also the first HMO offered by BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Today, more than 180,000 members have chosen the plan. BlueChoice HealthPlan main office is located in Columbia.
