Incorporated in 1976, the Bridgeport Community Health Center is a nonprofit, community-based organization. It operates more than five full-time health centers and employs over 190 staff members that serve nearly 20,000 patients every year. The center offers a range of medical, dental and women s health services and programs. The Bridgeport Community Health Center maintains adult medicine, pediatrics, dental, podiatry mental health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, obstetrics and gynecology departments. It provides family planning, nutritional counseling, pregnancy testing, birth control assistance, and sexually transmitted diseases screening and treatment services. The center also conducts child birth, infant care and breast feeding related classes. Its Empowering Children & Families At Risk (ECAR) program includes individual counseling and substance abuse relapse prevention services. In addition, the Bridgeport Community Health Center offers the Pediatric AIDS program that focuses on the care, treatment and support of HIV positive children and their families. The center is a member of Healthway, the National Association of Community Health Centers and the Connecticut Primary Care Association and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. It maintains a presence in Bridgeport, Conn.
