Head Start is a federally funded program for four-year old students. The program serves children with single mothers and offers temporary assistance for needy families in Bunche Early Childhood Center. It is a prekindergarten center that serves more than 300 students and offers migrant program and special education classes. Its staff includes teachers, counselors, speech therapists, nurses and diagnosticians. Head Start also provides social skills training, first step to success, and stop and think social skills programs. It offers guidance services that assist students to acquire and apply basic life skills by making optimal use of special knowledge and skills of school counselors. Bunche Early Childhood Center is a part of the Midland Independent School District.
