CAO, also known as Community Action Organization is a nonprofit organization providing various social services to low-income individuals and families. It encourages active citizen participation for educational, political, economic and social change. The organization s services include housing, employment, mental health, family development, health, minor home repair, and youth and senior services. Its drug abuse, research and treatment program deals with the treatment of individuals addicted to opiate drugs through rehabilitation services. It additionally provides emergency assistance programs that offer short-term assistance to individuals and families, including shelters, clothes, foods and household needs. The organization helps more than 21,000 individuals and over 8,500 families every year. It is located in Buffalo, N.Y.
