The Center for Applied Linguistics is a private, nonprofit organization that offers various learning programs for improving communication skills through language and cultural understanding. Established in 1959, the center is headquartered in Washington, D.C. It provides a wide range of programs in fields of bilingual education, English as a second language, literacy, foreign languages, dialect studies, language policies and refugee orientations. It also provides education to linguistically and culturally diverse adults and children. The center provides several professional development and technical assistance programs for cultural orientation and adult education programs in schools, school districts, service organizations and government agencies. Additionally, it organizes special projects on development, testing and assessments, and workshops and training classes for teachers who teach English as a second language.
