Charleston County Housing & Redevlopment Authority offers affordable housing programs and assists in providing economic opportunities to the low-income citizens of Charleston County, S.C. Its public housing division offers various residences for elderly and disabled citizens. Charleston County Housing & Redevlopment Authority has more than 140 single family homes throughout Charleston County. The authority manages the operations of more than 350, one-, three- and four-bedroom housing units, and its single family homes are located in more than 49 subdivisions throughout Charleston County. Its public housing program serves more than 500 families annually. Its Family Self-Sufficiency program, encourages communities to develop local strategies to help assisted families obtain employment that will lead to economic independence and self-sufficiency. The Individual Development Accounts Program is an asset-building program that helps participating families learn about saving money and budgeting through financial literacy training.
