Founded in 1975, Charlotte Russe Holding operates two retailing concepts in the young women's fashion market. Charlotte Russe stores offer fashions that are economically priced and inspired by trends. The Rampage chain of stores targets women from their mid-twenties to early thirties who set rather than follow trends. In September 1996, Saunders Karp & Megrue, a private equity investment firm, and Bernie Zeichner acquired Charlotte Russe from its founders with the intention of pursuing a national store expansion program. A total of 29 stores were opened during the first two years under the new management team. Charlotte Russe Holding had more than 350 Charlotte Russe stores and 66 Rampage Stores as of September 2005. The company has a 125,000-square-foot distribution center in San Diego and an additional distribution center in Ontario, Calif. Charlotte Russe operates a location in San Diego.
