The Chatham Area Transit Authority was established on January 9, 1987. The company maintains a fleet of approximately 55 buses, which travel on 19 routes. It is governed by a board of directors that includes the nine Chatham County Commissioners, three citizen appointees and a citizen appointee that represents the disabled community. Funding for the Chatham Area Transit Authority comes from the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Federal Transit Administration, a local transit tax and farebox revenues. Its paratransit service for the disabled, Teleride, served more than 62,500 passengers in 2004. The Chatham Area Transit Authority is located in Savannah, Ga.
