Chatham Health Department is rooted from public health agencies established more than 100 years ago in the Savannah, Ga., area through the Chatham and Effingham County public health departments. The health departments offer preventive health services to all of the families and individuals who live in this two-county area. They provide primary care to families who do not have private physicians. Most services are paid for by a combination of state, county and federal funds, plus moderate fees charged to patients on a sliding scale based on income. No one is refused service because of inability to pay.
