Founded in 1894 as a settlement house, Chicago Commons is one of the first organizations to implement the Reggio Emilia approach with low-income families in the United States. It serves more than 10,000 people with limited educational and economic resources annually. The organization operates various day care centers for senior citizens. Chicago Commons also offers a variety of home care services. It conducts preparation classes for GED courses. The organization administers English as a Second Language and Head Start programs. Chicago Commons additionally provides services for seniors citizens with Alzheimer s disease and dementia. It maintains a range of residential communities, such as Comprehensive Senior Care and Taylor Center for New Experiences. The organization is a member of the United Neighborhood Centers of America. Chicago Commons is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
