The Ann Arbor Police Department provides law enforcement services, promotes public safety and protects the rights and property of residents in Ann Arbor, Mich. The patrol division is responsible for answering calls for service, patrolling assigned areas, investigating motor vehicle collisions, enforcing traffic and criminal statutes, and completing written reports and other documents as required. The investigative division is responsible for fingerprinting, pistol permits and safety inspections, and police action on a bad check. Other divisions within the department include traffic enforcement, animal conrol and enforcement, the K-9 unit, code enforcement, support services, the neighborhood watch program, vehicle impounds and auctions and the amber alert program. The Ann Arbor Police Department employs more than 150 sworn officers and nearly 70 civilian employees.
