The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department operates more than 200 parks throughout the city of Phoenix, which includes more than five desert-mountain parks. City parks generally are open to the public from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Some smaller parks close earlier. The department s specialty parks includes dog parks, hiking trails, skate parks, Rio Saludo Project, mountain preserve parks, Heritage and Science Park and South Mountain Environmental Center. Alcohol permits for Phoenix parks are available at all Parks District Offices and at the Parks and Recreation Department at the Phoenix City Hall.
