Welcome to Communities In Schools of Arizona, Inc ( CISA ). Since 1994, we have served students in Arizona with academic enrichment, social advocacy, and vocational education. CISA began with just a few concerned community members in 1994 ; we have grown to provide support in overcoming barriers to education for nearly 18, 000 students at over 58 schools each year. CISA understands that so much of what happens in the classroom is influenced by conditions outside of school. We work directly with the most disenfranchised student populations, identifying and removing barriers to their success in school and life. All CISA programs and services are designed to meet the needs of our students by bringing social services and supplemental academic resources into the schools. To do this, we develop partnerships with federal and state agencies, community-based organizations, small businesses, and large corporations. Our staff is highly qualified, diverse, and committed to serving young people of Arizona. Attendance rates, grade point averages, and graduation rates are positively affected by our specialized programs. Through the valuable one-on-one relationships our staff develops with students, students who may have been at risk of failing or dropping out of school, begin to recognize the need for education and begin to take an active role in their own personal and educational development. Ultimately they become proud owners of diplomas, backed by academic foundations, marketable skills, and career aspirations. What our experience has shown is that working together as a community to support our young people causes the kind of positive results that we want for our students and for our communities as a whole. I invite you to consider joining the staff, Board of Directors of CISA, corporations, businesses and community volunteers in helping children succeed in school and in life. Consider what you should do, what you should give, and what you can bring to help a child succeed. With all of us committed to this investment in our youths' health and well-being, they can achieve academic success and have promising futures.
