Informations
Community Education Group, Inc ( CEG ) is a not-for-profit organization originally incorporated in Washington, D.C. in 1993 as the National Women and HIV/AIDS Project ( NWAP ). CEG focuses on the creation and expansion of programs and projects, which address the health, socioeconomic, environmental and systemic challenges facing the African American family. We are dedicated to helping communities hardest hit by HIV/AIDS and other health disparities, and the community-based organizations that serve them. Our motto, "Building stronger communities, one project at a time", illustrates our mission and commitment to capacity building.CEG works with a diverse constituency of organizations focused on eliminating health and economic disparities, with an emphasis on HIV-related programs. CEG's mission is founded in a model of self-empowerment. When agencies working in HIV and AIDS areas are trained to be self-sufficient, we can then begin to end disparities reflected in other areas of the community. Individuals and agencies that have been traditionally under-served by the medical and social service fields are provided the tools to identify their own needs, devise solutions to their problems, and implement effective measures to create change.CEG's focus is on developing programs and plans which can be replicated elsewhere. CEG has developed innovative educational programs to serve communities hardest hit by HIV/AID. CEG assists communities of color in overcoming cultural and systemic barriers to accessing critical HIV/AIDS information, and have facilitated community-directed processes aimed at building bridges to health, planning/policy, and funding processes.CEG employs practical approaches in its efforts to decrease morbidity and mortality in target populations and to end the disparities so often felt by women of color and the agencies that serve them.
