Concord Bible Church

Concord Bible Church is an independent Baptist church dedicated to the sound, expository preaching of God's Word and the preservation of traditional family worship. We distinguish ourselves with a generous, caring congregation with a zeal to serve the Lord and live in obedience to God's Word. We provide numerous opportunities in the area of music, and a variety of children's ministries as well. With Christian consumerism and contemporary trends overrunning the church today, Concord Bible Church has a refreshingly balanced philosophy that promotes stewardship, accountability, and reverence for God. In 1971 a small group of believers, concerned over denominational trends, saw the need for an independent church in the city of Concord that would stand for the authority of God's Word. Through the generosity of Rev. C. R. Allison, 5 acres of land was donated to establish the new church which was completed in December of 1972. The Allisons opened their home many times for church services, prayer meetings, and Bible studies while the building was being constructed. Rev. John Belk served part time as the first pastor of the church, and Robert E. Fisher, Norman Alexander, and Robert Alexander served as officers. On August 31, 1979, the church was forced to close, but reopened again one year later. In January, 1982, with church funds at an all-time low, the church agreed to access the Church Planting Ministry at Bob Jones University to secure pulpit speakers and seek a full time pastor. Rev. Jack Tillman served as interim pastor. Dr. Richard Rupp and Dr. Ottis Holmes were also among the men provided by the university. In June, 1982, Rev. William Krewson, a graduate assistant at Bob Jones University, was called to serve as pastor. Later that year it was agreed to incorporate the church under the new name of Concord Bible Church. In May, 1987, Rev. Krewson resigned as pastor to pursue seminary training in California. Rev. David Legrand of Piedmont Baptist Bible College served as the interim pastor. On January 24, 1988, the church called Rev. Thomas Sandquist to be the new pastor. Pastor Sandquist was a 1982 graduate of Bob Jones University and was serving as an associate pastor in Johnson City Tennessee. During Pastor Sandquist's tenure the congregation has nearly doubled and many changes have taken place.
