Who is County Cycles County Cycles is a single location actual brick and mortar store. In business since 1981, we have grown out of our original garage location, through a small gas station, and finally into our existing building. We believe our tag line, "Trikes to Pro Bikes", really encompasses what we do here. There is a bicycle for everyone who wants one, and it's our job to find it. We carry an impressive quantity of extras to go with those bikes. Almost 30 years of buying bike parts can amount to a lot of components and accessories. We invite you to come in for a unique shopping experience that is County Cycles In the meantime, here's a look at some of the faces you can expect to encounter when you walk in the door: Marty has been riding and working on bikes over parts of six decades. He says of his years in the bicycle business that he is "very proud to have led the staff of County Cycles since 1991". In addition to his interests in bicycle transportation, he brings experience from other bike shops, wholesaling, frame building, and co-op coordination. His experiences span the gamut, from British three speeds to Campagnolo 11 speeds. Marty remembers delivering papers on a red bike with paper boy baskets and taught himself to ride all the way to school no handed. A kid sure couldn't do that in today's traffic! he cautions. Marty's junior high principal noticed him using hand signals consistently as he rode into the school yard and asked him to participate in a school assembly demonstrating safety. Marty still encourages helmet use, hand signals, lights and all aspects of bicycle safety. Once a bike nerd, always a bike nerd. Marty has dedicated a huge portion of his life to promoting bicycle transportation and riding for fun and exercise. He has been a regular bicycle commuter since 1974. Some of his time is spent volunteering for the St. Paul Bike Depot, Yellow Bike Coalition, and he serves on the board of directors of the Minnesota Bicycle and Pedestrian Alliance. He can talk the talk with racers, but he definitely rides the ride with commuters and tourists. Marty did a four month tour of the British Isles in the seventies. He can't imagine a better way to see the world, than from a bicycle seat. Along with being County Cycles bad boy', Dan also brings a softer side to the group. Dan believes that bicycles are beautiful and that riding is empowering because you control the pace. The only power you use is your own. Dan feels that County Cycles is more of a community hub than just a store. Everyone who works at County has adopted a similar cycling lifestyle. If he doesn't know something, he feels very comfortable asking a co-worker. It's a very cooperative environment. Dan loves all types of cycling from his 1700 mile tour around Lake Superior in 2007, to his racing at the track, cyclocross circuit, and even racing solo at 24 Hours of Afton. Not to mention the thousands of miles he rides around the twin cities every year commuting to and from work, and frequenting the local beverage establishments.
