The Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority is one of the first and largest housing authorities in the United States and receives most of its funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The agency owns and manages properties and administers rent subsidy programs to provide affordable housing opportunities to low-income citizens. The Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority also operates an accredited police department to ensure safe places to live and work, as well as a social services department that develops programs for the welfare of residents. It is responsible for the management and operation of the local public housing program, as well as the Housing Choice Voucher Program. The Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority also provides homeownership and employment training opportunities for qualified individuals and families. The agency serves more than 10,000 households in Cuyahoga County in Ohio.
