Daren Steneman was formally trained in wood finishing, restoration, and conservation at the National Institute for Wood Finishing (the only accredited wood finishing program in the United States), and is a member of the Professional Refinishers Group.
Although skilled in stripping and refinishing, Daren's specialty is working with existing finishes. He believes that working with and repairing an existing finish on an antique preserves the historical integrity of the piece by removing as little of what originated with the antique as possible. Bumps and bruises and some wear and scratch marks are what give antiques character and separate them from new furniture. Further, this skill allows him to be a talented on-site touch up and spot repair artist with new or gently used furniture that has only a few nicks and dings.
As a wood restoration artist, Daren's priority is respecting the historical, sentimental, and monetary value of each piece he works on.
