This approach is usually reserved for patients undergoing extensive dental procedures, such as wisdom teeth extractions, or for the extremely anxious patient. With IV sedation, the patient is awake but very relaxed and usually does not remember the procedure. The sedation patient must have an escort for the appointment and post-surgical supervision at home.*Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”)Nitrous Oxide is inhaled by the patient through a rubber nosepiece and helps patients to feel relaxed. It is one of the most common forms of sedation used in the dental office, and the effects wear off quickly after the gas is turned off. This is the only form of sedation where patients can drive home after the procedure and can eat food pre- and post-operatively.*Cosmetic Dentistry•Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made porcelain laminants that bond directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps or disguising discolored teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures.•Bonding composite is a process in which a plastic tooth-colored resin material is applied to a tooth’s surface, sculpted into shape, light-cured and then polished.•Whitening is the most common cosmetic dental procedure. While many whitening options are now available, including over the counter products, dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedure for lightening discolored teeth.•Contouring, also known as tooth reshaping, is an instant treatment that is also available.
