Dowling Middle School offers a range of learning options fro more than 1,600 students in grades six through eight. The school provides various athletic opportunities, such as basketball, soccer, football and volleyball. Established in 1968, Dowling Middle School maintains a library that stocks a collection of encyclopedias and books. The school has a parent-teacher association, as well as offers various extracurricular opportunities, including band, choir, theater and dance. Dowling Middle School operates an after-school program that organizes karate classes, as well as provides homework assistance services. The school also supports the English as a Second Language program. It conducts classes in English and special education, as well as operates a magnet program in fine arts. Dowling Middle School is governed by the Houston Independent School District.
