The Educational Credit Management Corporation exists to provide a unique range of services to students, schools and lenders participating in the Federal Family Educational Loan Program. The company guarantees Stafford, Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students and consolidation loans for students, parents, schools and lenders, and acts as the designated guarantor for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the state of Oregon. ECMC provides information and assistance to borrowers whose loans were originally guaranteed by the Higher Education Assistance Foundation. It also provides technical assistance to other participants in the Federal Family Educational Loan Program as required by the United States Secretary of Education. It has established an ombudsman office to assist borrowers who have a defaulted student loan held by the company, unresolved issues regarding the defaulted student loan and exhausted all avenues to secure a resolution. ECMC has offices in St. Paul, Minn., Richmond, Va., and Eugene, Ore.
