First Baptist Church Atlanta is a diverse congregation of 15,000 members from all over the Atlanta metro area. In 1971, Dr. Charles Stanley was called to serve as senior pastor when the church was located in downtown Atlanta at Peachtree and Fifth streets. Under Dr. Stanleys leadership the church outgrew its building and purchased 55 acres and a building from the Avon Corporation in Dunwoody. The church continues to restore and build as God leads in order to meet the growing needs of its many ministries. First Baptist Church Atlanta offers various ministries, such as children, college, career, international, music, students and adults. The Music Ministry includes a full orchestra, a senior adult choir and an economically priced music education program. FBA additionally provides Biblically based counseling, pastoral care ministries, a full-size Christian bookstore and various events for the community such as the annual First Family Christmas program. In addition to providing two Sunday morning services, Sunday school classes for all ages and discipleship classes throughout the week, FBA supports 100 Faith Promise missionaries internationally and sends out more than 100 members on short-term mission trips each year. All of these ministries are provided with the sole intent of touching the world with the Word of God, motivated by a passion for God and compassion for people.
