General Welding Works, established in 1944, has been providing quality pressure vessels to the refining and petrochemical industries from its Katy Road facility, Houston. General Welding over its 60-plus years established itself as a manufacturer of large pressure vessels. In the 1990 s, General Welding began leasing a portion of the old Armco Steel #2 smelt building in the Greensport Industrial complex effectively increasing its capacity and allowing the company to ship much larger vessels due to the size of the shop and its proximity to the Houston Ship Channel. In 2004 General Welding signed a long-term lease for 800 feet of the main bay along with additional side bays essentially doubling the square feet under roof. As of 2005, its entire manufacturing effort has been relocated to the Greensport facility, Houston. The Greensport facility has access to rail and water, allowing it to ship very large vessels both locally and abroad.
