Created in 1934, the Georgia Municipal Association represents the municipal governments in Georgia. It is based in Atlanta, and is a voluntary, nonprofit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and technical consulting services to its members. The association has a membership of more than 450 municipal governments. It helps in shaping Georgia's communities and provides leadership, tools and services that assist the local governments to become a full-service city council. It provides a wide range of services that include deferred compensation and defined contribution, delinquent business license fees, e-government, electronic sealed bidding, employment screening and credit verification. In addition, it offers financing program, hotel and alcohol tax revenue recovery, natural gas purchasing, retirement services, health promotion and wellness program, life and health, property and liability insurance, online surplus auctions, risk management, unemployment and workers' compensation. The Georgia Municipal Association employs a staff of more than 65 full-time employees.
