Georgia State Patrol is a law enforcement agency that is responsible for investigating traffic crashes and enforcing traffic laws on the roads. It is a division of the Georgia Department of Public Safety, which was founded in 1937. Georgia Department of Public Safety also operates Capitol Police and Motor Carrier Compliance divisions. Capitol Police prevents and detects criminal acts and enforce traffic regulations. The Motor Carrier Compliance division conducts safety inspections of commercial motor vehicles and inspects highway shipments of hazardous materials. Georgia State Patrol, in collaboration with cell phone providers, offers Star G-S-P service for motorists to report suspected impaired drivers.
