GVC was the first practice in Atlanta to offer vital vascular surgery procedures such as carotid endarterectomy, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and VNUS closure procedures for the treatment of varicose and spider veins. Dr. Douglass Whitney played an integral part in the development of diagnostic angiography and therapeutic catheter-based interventions by vascular surgeons in the Atlanta area. For over 25 years, GVC has worked in conjunction with St. Joseph's Hospital a renowned leader in vascular and cardiovascular treatment. GVC was the first vascular surgery group at St. Joseph's to perform carotid stenting and aortic stent grafts. Dr. Douglass Whitney's son, Dr. Brooks Whitney, was the first physician at St. Joseph's approved to perform carotid stenting. GVC's vascular lab is accredited by The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories ( ICAVL ), and offers in-office ultrasound scans, which increase patient convenience and rapid diagnosis. In 1991, GVC moved its main office to the St. Joseph's Hospital medical campus. Dr. Joseph Zarge joined the practice in 1997.
