Grand Avenue Primary Learning Center, located in Orlando, Fla., serves the Holden Heights community in Florida, which is comprised of low-to-moderate cost homes, subsidized apartments and a housing project. Established in 1926, it offers classes in prekindergarten through grade two and enrolls more than 400 students. Classes are self-contained, with an average enrollment of 19 students per class. The learning environment is further enriched by the Family Service Center, an on-campus school partnership, which offers free community, health and social services. These early childhood education classes develop a child's positive self-concept and attitude toward school and learning and provide foundation experiences that enhance the child's physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth. It offers a program that includes reading, process writing, spelling, grammar, math and science.
