Green Door is a community program that prepares people with severe and persistent mental illness to work and live independently. It has helped more than 3,000 people with metal illnesses from St. Elizabeth s Hospital, homeless shelters and the Washington D.C. community. Green Door helps patients overcome poverty and homelessness by providing training, skills and services needed to get control of illness and their lives. Its services include psychiatric services, medication education and monitoring, community support services, transitional and permanent housing, day programs, job training and placement, family education and counseling, substance abuse counseling, crisis intervention and remedial education. Incorporated in 1976, Green Door maintains its facilities in Washington D.C.
