The Harris County Sheriff s Office Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that prevents crime, protects residents lives and their property, suppresses criminal activity, and apprehends criminal offenders. It undertakes cases related to juvenile crime, sexual offense, drug abuse and domestic violence. The Harris County Sheriff s Office maintains an Emergency Response Team (ERT) that deals with dangerous situations, including high-risk warrant arrests and explosive devices, as well as heavily armed criminals and barricaded persons. The office also has an honor guard that marches in parades, conducts funerals for officers and their family members, and attends wakes and funerals for area officers killed in the line of duty.
