Harrison Elementary School opened in 1876 as a one-room school and is named after Benjamin Harrison, one of the former presidents of the United States and his grandfather, William Henry Harrison. It offers a variety of educational opportunities for the physical, emotional and mental development of students. The school s academic curriculum includes several subjects, such as language arts, mathematics, science, social science and health education. Harrison Elementary School also provides Title I, early childhood and special education programs. Its library and media center has a collection of more than 10,000 items. Harrison Elementary School is a part of Cedar Rapids Community Schools, which serves more than 17,800 students in over 30 elementary, middle and high schools. It is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
