The City of High Point Department of Transportation provides a safe, economical and environmentally sensitive means of moving people and goods through an accessible transportation network which serves the best interests of High Point. It operates through Administration, Off-Street Parking, Office Support, Public Transportation, Signs and Markings, Signal System and Traffic Signals divisions. The department s transportation planning division encourages and promotes the development of a multi-modal transportation system that maximizes mobility of people and goods while minimizing fuel consumption and air pollution. This division serves as lead planning agency for the High Point Metropolitan Planning Organization (HPMPO) to develop transportation plans and programs for the High Point Urban Area. It also operates an engineering and design division that provides assistance in the planning and review of existing and proposed transportation systems and facilities, responds to public complaints, and collects and evaluates traffic information for improving safety with all modes of transportation.
