Hinds Hospice, located in Fresno, Calif., offers symptom management, counseling and support to terminally ill patients. Most people receive care in their own homes, and the other options include a skilled nursing facility or the Hinds Hospice home. Patients receive regular visits from members of the interdisciplinary team that consists of registered nurses, licensed visiting nurses, home health aides, social workers, chaplains and volunteers. Their support is available 24 hours, seven days a week, and the patient's attending physician continues to manage the patient's care. The medical director oversees the treatment being provided by the hospice team. They also coordinate with the attending physician to provide optimal care. In order to provide comfort care, dietitians, physical therapists and specialists from other disciplines can be ordered by physicians.
