Informations
Bike New York is a nonprofit organization established in 2000 to promote and encourage bicycling and bicycle safety education through public events and collaboration with community and government organizations. Bike New York produces one of the largest cycling tours in America, the Five Boro Bike Tour. The Five Boro Bike Tour began in 1976 as a program of American Youth Hostels. By the late 1990s its growth required a new organization, which formed the Bike New York. Bike New York added a second ride in 2002, the Twin Lights Ride, to make riding opportunities outside the city available. In 2004, Bike New York added the Harlem Valley Rail Ride, a July ride beginning and ending in Millerton, N.Y. The proceeds from Bike New York s activities help support Recycle A Bicycle and the New York City Department of Transportation s Traffic Safety for New York. In 2005, Bike New York began its own program of bicycling education. Bike New York is based in New York City.
