Founded in 1938, the Athens Housing Authority is a nonprofit public corporation that provides affordable housing options to the low-income citizens of Athens-Clarke County in Georgia. It administers and manages more than 1,100 rental housing units in over 10 different neighborhoods. The authority builds and sells houses through the Act I Homes program. In addition, it offers services for construction, real estate development and asset management. The agency also supports the renovation and construction of privately owned housing developments. It provides counseling and referral services and assistance in long-term housing planning. The agency organizes a variety of social events and youth programs. The Athens Housing Authority is a founding member of the Georgia Housing Assistance Payment Administrators and is located in Athens, Ga.
